Summah Hanson: Back Home After Junior NBA in Florida USA
Australian basketball talent was recognised internationally at the Jr. NBA Tournament this year with young athlete, Summah Hanson from Sunshine Coast Basketball being selected to play in Orlando, Florida in August.
Summah has recently arrived home with an invigorated love for the game, and a wealth of knowledge gleaned from NBA and WNBA players.
“My favourite part was making friends from around the world, especially my teammates,” says Summah.
Summah Hanson played in the girls Asia Pacific team, who she led in scoring and rebounding.
“They’re the best girls my age from around the world and playing against them was an amazing opportunity.”
Started Playing Basketball at 7
The young forward first picked up a basketball when she was just 7 years old, competing in youth basketball competitions and Mini Hoops with her school friend. She was encouraged to play basketball by her parents who wanted her to play a sport where she could take advantage of her height.
“My parents knew I was going to be tall, so it was because of them I’m involved in basketball!”
The most important thing, according to Summah, is hard work and commitment.
“My advice to young basketball players is that if you work hard it will pay off and if one door closes, it’s not the end of the world because another door will open.”
