State Team Coaches: U16 Announced
Basketball Queensland are proud to announce that the following coaches have taken up positions as the U16 State Team coaches. We congratulate them on their selection and have every faith that their skills and experience as coaches, mentors and trainers, will take our homegrown athletes to competition victory!
I first got involved in basketball in grade 7 at school. Some friends of mine were playing it so I thought I would give it a go! I ended up making the school team, then the regional team and finally the state team after only about 6 months after picking up a ball, after that I was hooked!
My first taste of coaching was conducting Aussie Hoops clinics at schools all over Brisbane when I was 18. It was originally a bit of fun while I was at university and still playing. I had some spare time so I started helping out with some U12 club and rep teams. After assisting numerous junior rep teams, I got my first gig as Head coach in 2002 at the Northern Australia Basketball Challenge, where my U15 Girls South team won the challenge and I was lucky enough to earn the inaugural Trish Cockrem Female Coach of the Tournament award.
Since then I have coached various rep and Queensland North state teams, been assistant coach to the Cairns Dolphins QBL and attended two Australian Development Camps. Until just recently I was the Associate Head Coach of Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence Women’s Program where worked with young athletes on every aspect of the game, including team and individual coaching, shooting practice, strength and conditioning, nutrition, psychology, Personal Excellence, physio, massage, recovery and physiology. It is this background of knowledge and skills which I intend to put into play as the South QLD U16 Girls Head Coach.
I first fell in love with the game as junior for Melbourne Tigers, this then lead me to USA for college then to play professionally overseas and in Australia. All during this time I have given back to the game as a junior coach and in individual coach.

This will be my 8th AJC campaign as a Head Coach with a record of 2 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals. Over the past 15 years I have coached QBL teams in Mackay and Townsville including State and National ABA Championships before stepping up to be Assistant Coach for the JCU Townsville Fire in back to back WNBL Championships for the past two seasons.
In 2013 I made my International coaching debut leading an U19 groups to a Gold Medal at the Pacific Championships in New Zealand. I achieved another career highlight in 2017 as Assistant Coach for the World Championship winning Australian Under 17 Sapphires in Spain.
I have coached within the Northern areas of Queensland for in excess of 15 years. At National level, I was the assistant coach for the U18 North Men in 2013 & 2014 before taking the reigns as the head coach for the U16 North Men in 2015. I remain committed to Queensland North basketball and am excited with what this year could bring with the possibility of a number of players from 2015 returning in 2016. I offer a mixture of experience and discipline to the program with a focus on player enjoyment and development through positive experiences.
