Registrations are now open for the Basketball Queensland National State Performance Program (NPP).
We now welcome expressions of interest from athletes born in 2002, 2003 and 2004 for the Basketball Queensland National Performance Program NPP.
Registrations close 4th November.
As a result of the investment made into staffing in Northern and Central Queensland, we are now able to offer the NPP statewide. With the addition of two North Queensland State Performance Officers, one in Townsville and one in Cairns and a Central Queensland State Performance Manager, the programs can be run from Townsville, Cairns, Rockhampton and Brisbane.
After much consideration and consultation with governing bodies and key stakeholders, we have felt it is necessary to make some structural changes to our National Performance Program. Continuing the NPP in its current form would only add to the pressures and daily stresses that the elite junior athlete already has to deal with. The decision was made to change the age groups that we focus on our NNP program. We will now focus on educating the parent and athlete from an earlier stage which we believe will result in responsible decisions being made with regard to with training loads and player wellness issues.
The new program will have an entry Level at Top Aged U14 players, so those players 13 years of age and older and end at the Top aged U16 age group (players turning 15 in that year). We have found that the U18 age group athletes have so many choices for competition and trainings, we simply weren’t able to make the type of impact on their development required to see noticeable gains. Plus, we feel those athletes in the U18 age could slot in nicely with the W/NBL academies, QBL & SBL programs which would provide them with opportunities to stretch themselves on a daily basis.
