Basketball Queensland has several pathways and opportunities available to young athletes, from early development to representative basketball. We believe that parents have an important role in these formative years and encourage active participation alongside your child. On this page you’ll find information on where your child can participate in competitive basketball and how you can help them on their journey.
Where can my child play?
- Aussie Hoops – 5-10YEARS
- Association basketball
- Junior Representative Competition – BQJBC, QNJBC, CQJBC
- Molten CBSQ (Champion Basketball School of Queensland)
- State Championships
Athletes have access to experienced coaches and staff, as well as state-of-the-art facilities and resources from the Queensland Government via the Queensland Academy of Sport, Basketball Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport. Find out more about our programs here:
Basketball Queensland regularly conducts coaching courses and other activities throughout the year, supported by a defined pathway. Applicants should sign up to the OwnYouGoal app to view upcoming courses in the Coaching Portal. Your local association also may hold coaching accreditation courses.
Scoretable officials, statisticians and referees have been combined into the Basketball Queensland Technical Officials Group and co-ordinates training and guidance from social level through to elite. Check out our Technical Officials page, or contact your local association, to view upcoming courses.
Outside of technical officials and coaching, each association requires volunteers to keep their organisation functioning smoothly. Parents can contact their local clubs for information on volunteering for fundraising, communication, admin support, accounting, and general duties such as manning the door or canteen.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses who wish to be involved in their local club and can be organised through contact with the association.
Basketball Queensland recognises the importance of parents in the development of young athletes. However, it’s sometimes difficult to know where to start in giving positive support to your child. Basketball Queensland is writing an ongoing series of articles with tips for parents who wish to become more involved in their child’s sport. Check out our articles on helping your child love their game, and how you can be a Super Sport Parent on and off the court. Keep an eye on our Parent’s Blog section for upcoming articles!
