Miela Goodchild, Basketball Queensland’s reigning Female Player of the Year has recently represented Australia as part of the Australian Sapphires team which claimed the Women’s FIBA Under-17 World Championships earlier last month.
It was a fantastic year for the Australian Sapphires, having never finished better than 5th at the Under-17 Worlds. Australia completed the 2016 tournament with an average winning margin of 23 points and made it through the entire competition undefeated. Miela made Queensland proud, averaging three points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists during forty three minutes of action throughout the tournament. Her best game was against Mexico in which she achieved 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes of court time.
For those of you who do not know Miela, she is from Logan. She is an Under 16 State Champion, a member of the Queensland National Performance Program (NPP) in 2015 and was invited to participate in the Australian Development Camp earlier this year.
