Time Management Tips for Basketball Players
Dealing with multiple practices, games, carnivals, studies and other commitments every week can be very overwhelming and stressful and it can cause you to miss events.
Managing time if an essential tool all athletes must harness in order to succeed. We have put together a few top tips to ensure you are managing your time effectively.
1. Be Organised
Balancing your athletic obligations, school and other commitments will certainly take a toll on your available free time. Any part of your free time (as limited it could be) should not be spent scurrying around looking for stuff, like that missing paperwork due today or the textbook you need for tomorrow’s class. Instead, you could be lounging on the couch, just watching today’s game highlights. Sucks right? So, organise your things so that you know where everything is.
TIP: Use folders or binders to store loose papers, stow away those books in the same place; just anything you can do to maximise your precious free time and avoid the dreaded phrase: “Where the heck is my….?! I Need it!”
2. Plan Ahead
Knowing what events or due dates are coming up is a great way of arranging your time effectively. Calendars are a great and useful tool to avoid forgetting or missing out on events. A full year of Basketball is sure to be packed with events and you wouldn’t want to miss any.
TIP: Find a calendar format that works for you, either download one on your phone or go old school and grab one from the local newsagency. Spark your creativity by using different colours and icons for different events – just don’t miss that event.
3. Work as a Team
As part of a Basketball team, you know that team chemistry is an important aspect of the sport. A way of building or strengthening that is reminding your teammates of practices or games to ensure that they don’t forget and not turn up. Besides, why would you want them to miss practice? It could be the difference between a win or a loss.
As a student, working as a team with others can also help you manage your jam-packed schedules.
TIP: Group study sessions can help you to better understand topics, plus, being able to learn a new concept and help someone else with it also consolidates your own learning, so you really can’t lose.
Having time-management skills is essential for any person. Regardless of age, it is never too late to start improving these skills to result in a happier and healthier life.
