BQ Welcomes Return to Play Funding
Basketball Queensland (BQ) welcomes the Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation COVID SAFE Restart Plan, as basketball across the state prepares to return after an almost three (3) month standstill.
Under the Return to Play plan, the state government has committed $51.3 million for a COVID SAFE recovery package to support community sports in preparation for the resumption of training in Stage 2 (15 June).
The recovery package will provide a much needed boost to the basketball community, increasing the number of FairPlay vouchers available to Queenslanders and providing financial assistance to clubs and associations up to $2,000.
The recovery package includes
- $150 FairPlay Vouchers to cover sign on fees for 73,000 children from low income families, including those households affected by job losses (available from Stage 2)
For Associations and Clubs
- COVID SAFE Active Clubs Kickstart with grants of $2,000 for up to 7,000 clubs (available now);
- Active Restart Infrastructure Recovery Fund with grants for minor works and equipment of up to $20,000 for up to 3,000 clubs (available from Stage 3)
For State Sports Bodies
- Active Industry Fund providing $10.8 million across 77 state-level sporting and recreation organisations.
Returning to Basketball
With just over three weeks left until community sport (training) resumes in Stage 2, BQ is continuing to work closely with our Associations to make sure they are ready for participants to return for the first time since the suspension of basketball activities,
BQ has sent draft ‘Return to Basketball’ guidelines to all Associations in preparation for 15 June returning to training and we are currently awaiting confirmation from the Department of Sport and Rec on the number of participants allowed per court verse per stadium and further classification of non-contact activities.
Once confirmed, we will distribute our guidelines to the wider basketball community.
