Narelle Kelly Moving On
On Friday Basketball Queensland will say goodbye to Narelle Kelly. Narelle has decided it is time to move on, having been with Basketball Queensland for nearly 11 years and she will be sorely missed. Her contribution to all aspects of what we do at Basketball Queensland has been enormous, especially the work she has done to provide a platform for the ongoing success of our competitions and other signature events.
My journey with Basketball Queensland has been very powerful for my professional life and has left an indelible mark. The wealth of experience I have gained leaves me in good stead for the remainder of my career and I will never forget the knowledgeable and poignant people I have worked with” said Narelle. “The growth within Basketball Queensland and its associations over my time with BQ has been remarkable and it is a credit to our sport, its contributors and the entire team at Basketball Queensland”.
Role at the National Basketball League (NBL)
Prior to her role with Basketball Queensland, Narelle was the Operations Manager for a Men’s National League Basketball team for 9 years (Brisbane Bullets). Narelle attributes her time with the NBL as being most influential in defining her career path in the sport, providing the tools to maintain a life in the industry and later adapt to the fast-paced and ever-changing environment of Basketball Queensland.
Work at the 2018 Commonwealth Games
Narelle also spent 2 years of her time seconded to the 2018 Commonwealth Games. “I must acknowledge the great privilege I had from 2016-2018 to be the Basketball Sport Manager for the 2018 Commonwealth Games as this enabled me to work with so many volunteers in our Queensland network and to work with the International body, FIBA on this and other ongoing projects,” Narelle said.
“Basketball has in fact taken me all over the world,” said Narelle “and has given me the privilege to meet and work with some incredibly talented and dedicated people. I have witnessed and contributed to some unique moments in sport history that will stay with me forever”.
“We wish Narelle happiness and good fortune in the years ahead.”
