Mel Downer Leaves Basketball Queensland to work with Basketball New Zealand
Basketball Queensland wish to advise that Mel Downer, the State Performance Manager for the South, has decided to accept an offer to work with Basketball New Zealand
As such, Mel will be finishing her employment with Basketball Queensland today, 19th December.
Mel had this to say about her departure:
“The highlight of my time at Basketball Queensland has been the many great people that I have met, many of which have become great friends. It has been a great privilege and honour to be part of such a strong junior program, but I am excited for this new opportunity in New Zealand to continue my coaching journey.
I would like to thank all of the associations, coaches, managers, athletes, parents and service providers for your valued support during my time as the SPM. It takes a collective effort from all involved and everyone played their part – so thank you!
I will enjoy watching Queensland teams and athletes continue to succeed from afar!”
General Manager Game Development, Warwick Cann, added:
“Mel has been a keen and hardworking contributor to BQ through her excellent organization and coaching with the SPP and FDP programs. Her enthusiasm hard work and good relationship management will be sadly missed. However, I’m sure we will see her and Mick back in the home state of Queensland again once their time in NZ is finished” commented Warwick
“Professionally I’ve really enjoyed working with Mel and like others in the workplace and on court are all the better for her presence. She’ll be missed but remembered by many. Life’s an adventure and all at BQ wish Mel, Mick and Evie nothing but the best”
She will be sadly missed, but We would like to sincerely thank Mel for her valuable contribution over the past two years and wish her all the best with her new role in New Zealand.
