
Townsville continued their winning streak with another gold medal in the U18’s Girls Division 1 on the Sunshine Coast after their success at the U16 State Champs. While the host association had plenty to celebrate about with USC Rip City winning the Boy’s Division 1 title.
Townsville’s Flames displayed their dominance in the Division 1 final with a commanding 64-51 victory over BQJBC champions Ipswich Force. The Flames were led by Alex Fowler and Harriet Carey who were both named in the tournament’s All-Star 5. Townsville narrowly missed out on the double in the Girls tournament with the Lightning going down to Toowoomba 47-34 in the Division 2 Gold Medal game.

USC Rip City narrowly missed out on a BQJBC Gold Medal, but their determination for a State Championship was evident in the Boys Division 1 final against the South West Metro Pirates Gold team. Led by Tom Cordwell and Elias Cato, the Rip recorded a thrilling 82-80 win after the Pirates missed a 3-pointer on the buzzer. In the Bronze Medal game, Cairns Marlins overcame the Brisbane Capitals team to win 88-73.
In Boy’s Division 2 North Gold Coast Seahawks 1 overcame a tricky pool stage to defeat Southern Districts Titans in the final to claim gold. The Seahawks narrowly scraped into the semi-finals thanks to a big win over Townsville in the preliminaries. The Toowoomba Mountaineers engineered a comeback in the Bronze Medal game to defeat Cairns narrowly 71-68.
Spurred on by their home crowd, SC Phoenix Orange were too strong for the SWM Pirates team in Boy’s Division 3 winning their Gold Medal clash 78-58 at Caloundra and Ipswich Energy secured their only medal in the Boys’ with a 77-67 win over Redlands Pride in the Bronze Medal game for third place.
