This year Basketball Queensland are sending 12 Coaches on their bi-annual Coaches Study tour to the USA. The tour will depart Brisbane on Sunday 8th October 2017 for 20 days of coach education and invaluable exposure to some of the best High-Performance Basketball Programs. Basketball Queensland have extended the timeframe of this tour from previous years to provide exposure to more programs whilst in the US.
The tour goes behind the scene of some exceptional College and NBA teams and is targeted at coaches who are serious about learning from the best minds in basketball.
Like previous years, the tour will feature exclusive, closed-door meetings, where tour members are able to speak directly with coaches, staff and players of US College and NBA communities.
The full Itinerary includes visits to SMU, Baylor, University of Texas and a preseason NBA in Dallas before moving to the east coast for visits to Columbia, Seaton Hall, Brooklyn Nets, Madison Square Garden in New York. The tour then takes to the road with visits to La Salle, St Josephs, and the Philadelphia 76er’s in the Philly area. Visits to University of Virginia and Virginia Tech will be a highlight on the trip south to North Carolina where we will drop into NC State, Duke, UNC and Davidson. Whilst in North Carolina the group will be attending an NBA Season game between Charlotte Hornets and the Atlanta Hawks.
The final part of the tour stops off in LA with a visit to UCLA before jetting home on the 26th October.
A number of the schools targeted on this year’s tour have Australian, and in particular Queensland athletes, so it is hoped the group will be spending time with some of these athletes to hear of their experiences, especially as it relates to differences between the US training environment and the environment provided back in Australia.
