Champion Basketball School of Queensland
Basketball Queensland, in conjunction with Queensland School Sport and Queensland Secondary School Basketball, stage the Champion Basketball School of Queensland (CBSQ) tournament in September each year.
Held since 1974 the event attracts a great deal of interest from secondary schools across the state each year with over 120 boys and girls teams competing across several open-age divisions.
The winning team from each Boys & Girls Championship Division gain automatic entry into Basketball Australia’s Australian Schools Championships held each year in December.
CBSQ 2017 will be held from September 14th – 17th at the following venues:
– Logan Metro Sports Centre (main Championship Div venue)
– Cornubia Park Sports Centre (main 2nd Div venue)
– Mt Warren Sports Centre (main 3rd & 4th Div venue)
In response to the overwhelming interest that CBSQ has attracted in recent years, it has been necessary to review all aspects of the tournament, in particular, the team nomination process and division structures.
A number of significant changes were introduced in 2016 including a closed nomination process that was available to selected schools only. Final positions in the 2016 tournament dictate promotion and relegation, as well as wildcard opportunities being implemented in 2017.
In 2017 CBSQ will be open to both automatic qualifiers, as well as wildcard applications, allowing schools who have previously been relegated, or who have not previously competed to apply for a position in the competition.
Further information regarding this restructure and nomination requirements can be found in the Team Nomination Overview document.
